About Abundance League Meetings
San Francisco Abundance League meetings are held the third Thursday of every month. Below is the structure of our meetings which go from 6-10pm. Attendees can can come and go at any point during the meeting.
Meeting Format:
Mingling 6:00-7:00pm. Before the meeting starts, do some mingling and enjoy the potluck! Reach out and make yourselves and others feel at home. See our Mingle Dynamics.
Announcements, 7:00-7:45pm: Announcements are the heart of Abundance League. Announcements are opened by a facilitator. Each attendee gets 2 minutes to say their name, talk about their passions or project, their needs (in general or what they need to pursue their passion or project), and their gifts (what they can offer others pursuing their passions). 2 minutes is short, so come prepared with a tight message about yourself. Making an announcement is optional. It's perfectly OK to pass.
Here are the key purposes of announcements:
- Encourage each of us to to clarify what is important to us
- Allow us to manifest our visions publicly through discussion
- Motivate us to act. We feel accountable once we've made or intentions public
- Give us a chance to get and give help.
- Inspire each other to find or pursue our passions.
Typically announcements stimulate exchanges of ideas, contacts, support, and knowledge during the break or after the presentation. If the group is small enough (under 7 people), then exchanges of support happen real time during announcements. Announcements are more casual in groups of 7 and under.
Break, 7:45 - 8:00pm: Mingle and nosh on the potluck goodies.
Discussion, 8:00-9:00pm: Guest facilitators come to share a passion, project or skill that creates abundance. This is the salon aspect of Abundance League. Topic introduction is about 15 minutes followed by 30 minutes of discussion. Sometimes we have a guest artist whose work inspires abundance. Format for performances is similar as discussion, though the performance may be longer than 15 minutes.
Mingling & Clean up, 9:00-10:00pm: Even more mingling! And some clean up. We strive to leave the venue in as good or better condition than before the meeting.

I disagree with the message. Of course, I do not
believe in "negative thinking", but I do not believe
in "positive thinking" either. What do I believe in?
"Neutral thinking". This means "thinking without
projected outcomes", whether they be happy or sad endings. To project outcomes is to worry about the future and and take one self out of the present--where action takes place. It is also the result of our unhealthy need to control our environments, twisted out of proportion by our greed for desired results.
Positive Action is what I believe in, accompanied by neutral thinking about the outcome. By not getting distracted by future outcomes, one stays focussed upon and present with the tasks at hand. Positive thinking--and feeling--happens at the celebration of success and victory, where it is OK to be distracted in the jolity of the moment, a time to frollick, play, goof off. But to get the task done is to follow a plan of action undistracted by worry over unpredictable outcomes.
Neutrally Yours,
Ingrid
Hey Ingrid, nice comment. And how very Zen of you! Yeah, I agree, you can't get caught up in the outcome. You have to focus on the moment and what you have to do. And your emphasis on action resonates with me. Power is the ability to act. Empowerment is about taking action.
On the other hand, personal or group leadership requires that you have a vision of the future. I don't think these are conflicting ideas though I'm not sure how you reconcile them either. Nevertheless, I believe it's necessary to let go of outcomes and have a vision too.
